Cafe Racer in braintree ordered me a K&N air filter for my k6, then tells me it's £59.90!!!!! so told he can stick it! Rang around other places & they all come in at £45.00! Talk about charging over the odds!
Just thought id let people know if they were planninmg on ordering anything from there.

generally jon they arent too over priced and they have alot of parts avialable. plus they have expirience and are growing in reputation. personally i wudnt buy anything from them anyway cos id try and get it off ebay or internet cheaper first.

Thing is though mate the guys trying to charge a £14 on top of the retail price! Got to ask yourself how many people dont notice

You also have to ask yourself how many are too lazy to shop around ;)

Getting ripped off is one thing but being too idle to find out the prices of something you want to buy doesnt become the responsibility of the shop in my opinion ;)

You know the saying, fools and their money blah blah blah :)

What you have to remember though is a large chain of shops will have a larger account with suppliers like K&N and therefore have a better margin on products to allow them to sell at the SSP (suggested retail price, theres no such thing as RRP anymore for this reason)

You also have to take into account bulk orders, special offers for retailers etc. Its not a case of "sod it lets see what i can charge" If for example a K&N filter costs £25 trade, and they offer a bulk discount of say 20% if you order 50 or more, then obviously the margin on that product is gonna be better than someone who cant sell 50 so has to stick to the full trade price. Most retails aim for a 50% margin so they effectively double the price from trade to retail.

In some cases not all products are stocked and if its an item thats not widely sold through that particular store then they will have to special order it which means carriage charges which you pay for!

Not sure if im allowed to post this or not as im slagging a company off a bit, so if it's not ok then let me know & i'll delete it straight away....

Could of tried a price match, rather than been rude (even if it was overpriced) as these things tend to have a habit of biting you in the a%se.:grin3

I simply would of said 'But i can get it from ----- for 45, can you beat that?' :reading

Some places would prefer to pricematch, then for you to go to a different supplier.:grin2

Not only that but if this place has something you desperately need in, and nowhere else does.. then your screwed if you were not nice to them ;)

Not always true matey, i've ordered one through a mate who has his own bike garage in colchester (Sean Davies Motorcycles) & he's had to order it direct from K&N as he doesnt stock them & it comes in at £45.00 inc carriage! Anyway it's all sorted now, just didnt want people to spend extra cash on parts :grin2

glen did the yoshi box thing on mine too (was running lean and sounding dreadful), fixed it for a bit and it was LOVELY but now it's back to how it was again.

Big blue has got his 12000 mile service next week (so some of us are busy riding our bikes :grin2 even if it's only up and down the A12 :shooter) so he'll look at it again hopefully.
