because what they write in the magazines is so relevant to real road situations isn't it :laugh1
well i shall put a few ramblings in case anyone else wishes to read, it's not all about you you you :p

Not at all, but at least the bike is put through the paces over a 10,000 mile stretch and not just a quick nip round the lanes in 2nd gear ;) :D
Reliability, comfort over an 80 mile trip, fuel use, price of servicing, cost to insure, there the sort of things that you get from a magazine Harrie, you then go and read what owners think about them :)
How could your little jaunt on a demo bike be any more relevant than that of a bike journalist who is being paid to actually try and break the bike through riding it hard?
I think you missed the point i was trying to initially make ;) :D
And i appreciate its not all about me me me but considering i had contemplated buying one of these i was expecting a little bit more than your little attempt to impress just because you have test ridden one ;)
For what its worth i backed out of buying one when i first advertised my RSVR, specifically due to the fact that i had already met someone that had racked up over 10,000 miles on one and they advised me not to get one for commuting on, hence my dream was over :D

Being a vertically challenged person myself as some of our members like to remind me!
you cant take this as a insult
but wouldnt you need steps?

i'm not insulted at all!
actually it was surprisingly manageable! much more so than my 748, the weight felt really nice to move around (parking etc) and to get onto the bike without wrenching my arms out of their sockets!
on the advice of another titch, i took the bike out without a seat unit on. a BIG thanks to Jim Aim Motorcycles, I had got in touch with them previously about getting one lowered and they went away and asked around for me, and they didnt laugh me out of the shop when i asked them if it was ok to try without the seat. we had a look, found a few fuses which could have given me a nasty surprise when shifting my arse for a bend :laugh1 and they very kindly wrapped 3 pieces of bubble wrap round the subframe for me :clap
i had sat on the bike at Premier Bikes in Didcot, they sat me on the bike and pulled the seat down while i was on the bike to show what they thought they could lower the shock by and how much the seat could be cut by, and i could get one foot down (ball of foot and more) quite comfortably.
it's not a bike i would ever get both sets of toes down and i just need to have the conversation with myself as to whether this is going to cause me a problem. other issues are the wind blast over a ton, but then part of the reason for changing my bike is so that i resist the temptation to do stupid speeds in a straight line on the motorways/dual carriageways.
i took it all the way through all the gears but couldnt cope over 120mph, it felt like my head was actually being ripped off. in first it was quite hard work through town which would be a consideration for filtering, very flighty and i had to be super careful with the throttle.
i will write some more when i've got a bit more time x

not biting are you Harrie? :D
a one line review of how much you have fallen in love with a bike doesnt really tell us much does it apart from you have had a ride on one :D
lighten up, you love every bike you have! :D
But i am curious, if you rode this bike without a seat and contemplated having to get this one lowered properly, would it be the same bike due to the change in geometry?
And more importantly do you personnally think it would handle the miles you have managed to put on the GSXR, the ones i have seen havent lasted the winter too well (another reason why i decided against it) and the few that i know of that have ridden them have all had clutch problems.
And lets not forget who started this before we do anymore tit for tat, when you got ****ty trying to incinuate something or other about this being all about me (which it clearly isnt :D ) ;)
When i opened the thread i expected an objective review just like the ones you put on the Ducati site but instead got a 1 liner that told me nothing ;)

Nothing that cant be sorted with a modified race fairing/screen for the front :)
That bike was admittedly 155 at the wheel and 150kg but it was good for around 175  :D

Joking aside as has been said I could see that looking a bit rough after a few thousand miles commuting. Still they're there to use not to look at.

Aye thats John Barnett winning the New Era Superclub 'Sound of Thunder' he is now in BSB Superstock i think for this year :)
But it was his success on that bike against the RSV's and SP's that sparked the SuperDuke Battle thats running this year, which started out a bit like the Triumph Challenge but has sort of got quite expensive and competitive due to quite a few stars running in it :D
Still its a good advert for KTM, but that particular bike of Johns was back and forth to the factory to get the power out of it (and to fix the clutch a lot :D )

Wouldn't a nice cruiser get from A to B ?

NO NEED! :D
No-one should have to suffer a cruiser! :D
And i dont think its such a bad choice of bike as it goes, as a fun bike it will do what it says on the tin, okay a bit lardy at 184kg dry and only something like 118bhp at the wheel (the biggest let down is a 15 litre tank  ).
My only decision in this as far as trying to decide for myself is whether i could justify putting 14,000 miles a year on what is not a particularly cheap bike for what you get, but its not my money :D
Having done a smidge under 5000 miles on the R1 since beginning of May i would be crying putting that on a new bike again as i did with the RSVR, and am already contemplating getting another bike to share the load again :D

I think the new one has a whopping 18lt tank now, and smoother a throttle at low revs.
I for one will never use a nice bike for commuting again, they just get shagged.

Surely thats down to his opinion being a commuter? you are always going to enjoy your first proper ride on any bike if its something you have been looking forward to get ;) :D
Dont get me wrong Kev i wouldnt mind one of these myself as a play bike, but you dont find many people commuting on them, in the first instance down to the size of the tank on the earlier one and because they are wheelie machines :D
I have commuted 2 V twins myself over the last couple of years, both slightly more powerful admittedly and have racked up in excess of 17,000 miles on them ones alone, and during that time i have commuted a GSXR750, ZX9R, GS500, ZXR400 and the R1
Thats over 30,000 miles since 2005 alone and the ZX9R and R1 have been easier bikes to commute.
The R1 will do 160 miles to its 18 litre tank and that is with me staying at the minimum of the speed limit ;)
The Superduke isnt going to do that on a 15 litre tank and i reckon at the same sort of speeds its good for 90 miles before you have to pull in ;)
Horses for courses and all that, it would be my first choice bike if i didnt have to ride to sodding work everyday :(
But in black and not Orange! :D

Been off line for a bit due to a bloody virus, but im back !!!
Thanks to mick tls for the help over the past couple of weeks. Much appreciated mate. Your a star:clap
The Super Duke............
It is bloody awesome ! Had it about 2 weeks and havent had a lot of time to play but when I have I have enjoyed every second. I really cant fault it, the riding position is sooooo comfy, sit back in the seat and cruise for miles without back ache, arm ache, head ache so on........ then when you hit some good twisties move to the tank and just let the KTM use its own mind ! Tyres as standard were Diablos and I can honestly say they are the most stable and planted bits of rubber I have had, so will probably stick with them. The bike comes with WP suspension front and rear as standard along with braided hoses and brembo brakes (my god that thing stops quicker than a quick thing stopping !:grin2) other manufacturers should learn from it !
As for cornering the bike just tips in and goes :grin2 Im not the quickest rider but I am taking corners more confidently and quicker than ever before, probably why im having soooo much fun:clap
Also its my first V Twin........only thing I am struggling with is 1st and 2nd gears are really short so you move up to 3rd as soon as poss, but then the power kicks in ! every gear after that rolls on without any effort. The gears will come with practice im sure, but something I thought I would never say, or, could never understand, is that the V is a pleasure to ride and a beast with a very slight twist of the throttle (at one point I forgot I was on a new bike hit the throttle to much and was looking at the sky !!!:headshoot)
So in summary.....I ****in love my new toy !!!! Yea, it might only have a 15ltr tank but i still fill up with a smile on my chops !!!
