appears to be an engine oil shut off!!!

when i turn it up the bike runs like a bag of ****.

The wire runs from the top of the engine to the bottom of the engine.

I'm not sure but seen something like this before and it looks like and oil shut off valve which may be used for servicing.

It defo looks like engine oil pipework which would explain why it runs like crap when you turn it. Your probably starving the engine of oil.

It would 'appear' that it is a valve that controls the carb heating for when you are riding in cold weather.

The idea being that since the bike is air cooled and doesnt use coolant, you can divert some of the oil from the sump/crank to a feed that directs to the carbs to warm them up, once the bike is warmed slightly you turn the petcock on and allow warm oil to circulate around the carb to heat it up, then once done, you turn it back off and away you go :)

Or thats the theory at least :)

However i would just ask Parkies and have done with it :D

It looks like a Go faster Lever. Pumps special Oil and Nitro mixture from a secret engine compartmet into the carbs.
