my bike is my main method of transport. i only use my van for going to the supermarket, B&Q or race tracks. oh and for taking the pooch to the vet as he can't get his paws on the pillion pegs... (and he's bigger than me!)

maybe hide your car keys and go everywhere on your bike?! at least take it to work!

I ride the Trumpet to work everyday, its definately the way to ensure more two-wheel-time. It can be a bit of a pain when I have client meetings and have to get to their offices early to change but its worth it. I park right outside the office, for free and the tyres are nice n sticky by the time I hit the Burnham Bends on the way home.

Most weekends I get up early on a Sunday (bout 5am) and give myself a "just for fun" run out, round the Dengie TT or similar for about an hour, that helps too.

Using the bike to get to and from work if definitely the way, then take the missus out on it at the weekend. Dairy Cabin Burnham, Finchingfield, Tea Hut at High Beach, or even the Ace Cafe where they do really excellent food and lots going on too.

Went out round there yesterday evening, nice ride. Someone not so lucky on one of the bends. Black coloured bike planted in the trees at the roadside, with a group of riders standing near their parked up bikes, presumably waiting for the recovery truck.

Haha my brother did say about that he said he saw them get the corner before complety worng & then the approach was knackered for the next....... PoOf straight off the road.... he did stop to see if the guy was ok but it sppeared to be more of a bruised pride than any major injuries!! lol........ these part time bikers eh!

& yep start riding to work.... & throw away that car!! i dont have one & so i ride everywhere in all weather's at all times & have built up such a relationship between bike & rider, & have been reading the feedback from the bike very well for quite some time, you will find your confidence will increase tenfold & your ability too......The bike becomes very very familiar... you will enjoy it loads more!:laugh2

If riding to work isnt an option then allow yourself a quick blast after work.

Gramps did you do the short or the long TT course?

If anyone is going to WSB on 5th August I shall be delighted to ride down with you. Planning on leaving early in the morning though to secure my favourite spot on Clearways.

Riding to work is fine, i knock out around 85 miles a day and have to ride everyday anyway,

The down side is that i cant be bothered anymore riding the bike socially, its one of them things where you spend 2 hours a day riding in any weather and you get to the stage where taking it out on a weekend doesnt flick the switch.

That being said i dont really get that much time to ride socially anyway these days and much prefer to spend my time spannering on someone else's bike :D :D

I'm not so sure thats true huni. Prior to moving back to Essex permenantly I was commuting 150miles a day but still enjoyed the track days and weekend rideouts. Rain, wind, snow or shine I'd still rather be on the bike making forward progress than stuck in a metal box in a long long long line of metal boxes on the M25!

Don't know what you call the the short or long TT course. I'm a novice on them bends myself. Only just got biking again last year after a 29 year layoff.
Went out via Maldon, Mundon, Latchingdon and out to Bradwell-on-Sea, then Tillingham, Southminster to Burnam, then back along the road to South Woodham Ferrers and so on to A130 back to Chelmsford. About an hour for the loop.

Gramps thats the longish one. I tend start in South Woodham, through Stow Maries, out to Cold Norton, hang left out to Cock Clarks. Follow the road down to Woodham Mortimer then through Purleigh, Mundon, Latchingdon, Mayland, Steeple, St Lawrence, Bradwell. Back in through Tillingham, Asheldon and Southminster - onto Althorne then up Summerhill so I can ride the bends back to Burnham. Never fails to make me smile.

Banditmad - thats cool huni, keep me posted and lets hope they open the bike lane through the Dartford Tolls again!

i know what you mean, i still enjoy riding at the weekend but try and have a day off the bike if i can. we went through a brief period of wondering whether we were right for each other, but i tried a couple of other bikes and we're staying together now :clap
