I came past it at around 3pm and the carriageway from just before the Grays exit had been closed, however there was a small white van dumped on the hard shoulder/verge just after the approach lane that brings the traffic from Grays back down to the A13 and there were Police all over it ;)

There wasnt really much to see other than a massive crowd at the 'Police line' that had been taped across the carrieageway, must have been around 10 Police vehicles blocking the road and behind that probably 40 bikes and a 6 miles tailback with every man and his dog stood outside of their vehicles, looked like they had and were going to be there for some time ;)

Life is too good for these ****bags, you do the crime you do the time, but when you run you deserve shooting!!!

Can only really echo lateshift here...passed the scene at 4:20...tailbacks must have been over 2 miles.
Shame to see the van driver thinks he/she can drive away with no regard for the biker...what if they could have maybe helped to save his life??
Just want to wish the family involved all the best, and ask everyone using the A13 especially to keep their wits about them

a bit of karma though - the person who hit them is going to have to live with the fact that they did that to someone for the rest of their life :shooter

why can't people just be. more. careful. it makes me SO cross. and SO sad.

I only wish that was Karma though Harrie, sadly the driver has shown that they are more than happy to live with it on their conscience as long as they get away with it ;)

If they get caught then they might show a bit of remorse but normally its only in front of a judge to try and lighten a sentence.

No excuse for failing to stop at an accident :(

That being said i am the type (as i would expect most on here to be aswell) to stop and help someone else regardless of whether i have been involved, in my case i am half an inch shorter due to it :D

please dont misunderstand me, i am not saying there is any excuse at all. my aunt was killed in a very gruesome and very tragic road accident, where the driver had to stop at the scene of the accident for reasons i wont go into, she was prosecuted for death by dangerous driving etc etc and got just 3 months in prison and a 12 month ban. the driver was a trauma nurse at the local hospital where my aunt was taken after the accident so knew exactly the extent of the injuries she had caused and the effect it would have on our family. by a bizarre twist of fate she kept her job and ended up treating me when i broke my ankle, imagine how my gran felt when she walked in to visit me!

whoever the driver is and whatever their reasons, i hope they come forward because they'll be feeling pretty guilty for the rest of their days (and rightly so).

and yes RIP of course to the rider, and my thoughts to all their family and friends who must be going through a total nightmare.

It was one of those, different colour though. It was nasty accident, unfotunately nothing we could do. It just shows that you can wear all the right gear but still its the other idiots on the road.

The hit and run part left a very nasty taste

RIP fella

A MOTORCYCLIST killed in a horrific road smash in south Essex has been named by police.
Stephen Fielder, 53, of Gardenfields, Steeple, north Essex, died on the London-bound track of the A13, near the Grays junction, at 12.30pm on Friday.
Mr Fielder's motorcycle was involved in an accident with a VW Caddy.

Paramedics attended the scene and both sides of the dual carriageway were closed to allow an air ambulance to land.
However, Mr Fielder was declared dead at the scene.
Police were forced to close the road completely, leaving drivers stuck in tailbacks for hours.
Officers are also understood to have seized cameras from several motorists who were taking pictures of the accident.
Motorcyclist Benjamin Roe, 20, of Poole House, Chadwell St Mary, said: "It was absolute chaos.
"The queues were massive and police told us we would be looking at hours before the traffic got moving. The police were also taking cameras and phones from people who were taking photographs of the man on the ground."
A 28-year-old man from Plaistow, east London, arrested following the fatal crash on the A13, has been released on police bail until September 28.
Meanwhile, just an hour after the fatal crash, another motorcyclist was left with severe leg injuries after colliding with a lorry in Stonehouse Lane, Purfleet.
The man was taken to Kent's Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, where he remains in a stable condition.
The motorcylist, who was riding a red Kawasaki bike, was struck by an HGV.
The 37-year-old Turkish lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Anyone with information should call PC Rob Bell at Laindon Road Policing Unit on 01268 541312.

I'm glad I wasn't there at the scene. If I'd have seen anyone taking pictures I would have done more than take their camera/phone off them.
