On Saturday while riding along the A414 between Ware & Harlow I had a mystery occurance my front tyre deflated and when it was pumped up again it is fine and has stayed solid. I asmit i was moving fairly quickly and the road has some bumps!

Anyone else heard of or had a similar phenomenon?

Either the valve or the tyre itself were not seated correctly, saw Tarks rear tyre do the same thing at Snetterton.

It has been on there quite some time though and has done at least a 1000 miles.

Maybe you hit a bump, which caused the seal to break. Feck knows, glad it wasnt me :)

Pretty scary I can tell you as the bends that follow are pretty sharp at a reasonable speed. Still scrubbin' the seat now!

As mentioned my rear did it at snett on the back straight. I think its the valve manages to push itself in and loose all of the air... Did you have a valve cap on?

a friend of mine has his tires filled with nitrogeon gas, larger particals there for less likly to leak. thats his words not mine but might be worth a look if its any good ?

Nitrogen gas is normally used in racing, as you say its a denser gas and therefore tends to leak less, its also more stable to temperature rise which means that that the tyre pressure is more stable too :)

But it isnt unheard of for a tyre to go over a bump and lose pressure :)

No I did not have a valve cap on. Does this make a difference?

the valve cap is there to protect the valve ;)

its quite easy to get a bit of grit in there and lose air slowly, the cap stops anything getting in there and also helps to keep the valve under pressure :)

I didn't have a valve on when it happened to me as it wasn't there when I came back in... First time it ever happened to me.

Must be it then

that wont help it :shooter A valve cap is designed to keep all the air in the tyre even with no valve in or if it works loose. was it there when you went out on it ? if so someone might of nicked it and loosend the valve ? nasty and bloody dangerous to say the least !

There was no dust cap on the tyre before I set out.
