My exhaust has started 'popping' so yesterday i spent the day removing sheared screws and replacing them.. pretty hard job without taking the fairing/forks off.. but we managed it, but when we took the downpipes off, we noticed there was a split on one of the seals...

Is there anything i can use/buy to replace the seal to stop the exhaust popping???? its quite noisy.. even with all the screws replaced and tight as it can go..:shooter

If so, any bike shop should have as many as you want, they are cheap. If you can take the old one for them to see it would help.

If you mean between the silencer and downpipe, that's a part I used to replace regularly on my GPz. Used to go and get the gasket from Parkinsons at Marks Tey, they were the only place where I didn't have to wait ages, always on the shelf. Don't think they do Kawasaki anymore though. Again, cheap.

Yeah right at the end.. where the cylinder head tightens up and pushes the shimmy (?) into the engine to keep the 'gasket/seal' tight.. basically when i took the downpipes off we noticed the split.. and changing the screws have quitened it a little bit but not completely..:shooter

sounds like the old skool collars, like on a GS500? They can split when the exhaust is over tightened on one side! If its those you are looking at £35 if its a normal gasket then you could be looking at about £25 depends on bike!

downpipe to cylinder head gaskets are listed as being £1.25 for both the copper or the aluminium type :)

i assume its the GT550 aye :)

Sopers wanted a ridiculous amount for the copper ones for the R1, but i shopped around and the aluminium ones were a quarter of the price ;)

ok according to my stepdad the bike doesent have gaskets as each downpipe is individual (4-1motad(?)) and the part thats split is the end of one of the downpipes, wish i took a picture..:shooter

its ok for now.. not sure if theres anything i can put on it to quieten it a little more or even completely, or whether im gonna have to replace the whole exhaust.. either way.. i can hear the music again so its not that bad...:laugh2
