Morning All,

The Gertrude epic continues (thats my winter Honda). Having welded up the exaust, changed the oil again and fitted my nice heated grips, it would appear the old girl now requires a new battery.

Any suggestions for good reliable brands? I'm at NEC tomorrow searching for a bike ramp/lift and other shiney things so will be looking for a battery too!

Yuasa and Varta tend to be the strongest options, Sprint are a cheaper alternative but plenty of people have suggested that the batteries dont last as long.

Cheers huni. I dont mind paying if it is going to be reliable. I have used VARTA before but found the terminals corrode rather quickly.

You need to use battery grease to stop that happening, if you just plonk a battery in without greasing the terminals then its likely to suffer from corrosion ;)

Ah, so the Oil of Ulay was a bad idea then??

I'm ashamed to say I have never heard of battery grease. I'm guessing copper grease wont cut it?

I suppose Oil of Ulay might stop them ageing, but grease is by far the best option ;) :D

Failing that slap some vaseline on it, its only to stop the air getting to the terminals :)

Thank you for the handy hint sweetpea, soon as I have purchased the new battery I will dollop some Vaseline on the terminals.

I have never bought a Yuasa, but they are well respected, but I have used Varta and been pleased.

After fitting a new battery I spray some Castrol Chain Wax on the terminals, seems to work for me and I'm just tight...............

Cheers huni, that reminds me to add Chainwax to my shopping list for NEC. The only stuff I have is pink to go with my Triumph!
