Okay I'm going to cut to the chase...my bike needs pure hardcore magic to fix it.
I posted up recently about battery problems and this is how it stands:
New battery
New regulator rectifier (2nd hand, but was working fine)
Alternator tested as being fine
Trickle charger used overnight
Treid to start the TLR this afternoon and it didn't want to know.
Can anyone see anything I'm missing here before I take it to my garage with a blank cheque please??
Thanks
Ant

doubt its on the charging side, does it click? - have you tried putting as crew driver over the relay terminals?
it could be a faulty earth or even a dodgy connection, especially if its intermitant.

As evil as this may sound, im grinning like a cheshire cat as i read this... because for the first time ever...
ITS NOT MY BIKE!!!

Ok ok ok.. on a serious note, do the lights, indicators etc work.. just the engine wont start.. as i had this once i pressed the ignition and everything went off.. no lights, no indicators, no neutral light, not a sausage.. turnt out the earth plates on my battery had warped and needed re-positioning and then tightening up.
But like you said its a new battery, so other than those suggested 'bad earths/live wire feed' try the ignition switch, the wiring to the electric start & possibly the starter motor?
Just a couple of random guesses?? without knowing fully whats happening its all we can say imo.:grin2

We need a bit more information,
when you turn the ignition on, do the neutral and oil lights light up as normal?
when you press the starter button what happens?
does it turn over, at its normal speed?
or does it do nothing?
does it click?
does it turn over slowly?
the more information you can give us, the more likely we will locate the problem
Try taking off fairing and checking all wires and connections for green corrosion, loose conections, burnt wiring, & checking main fuse.
Dont know about Tls but when you turn ignition does the fuel pump buzz for a couple of seconds like on the srad?
Have had similar problems and it turned out to be a loose & badly corroded wiring connector which was holding water.
Have you tried Harry Pothead!

As i said before, my money is on the start relay :)

Alright...cheers for the help guys....and here's some more info as requested:
When i turn ignition on the neutral and oil lights come on...and the fuel pump buzzes as usual for a few seconds before going off.
When i hit the starter button there is a buzzing sound and maybe a few feeble attempts at turning the engine over....making the dash lights dim/go off
At this point I'm not going to bet against Lateshift with it being the starter relay, but I'll try and check all the relevant wiring sections that have been mentioned
Any more theories here??...I need to let Tooeymaster get back as the 'resident unlucky guy'
Cheers

The buzzing sound from the relay is very likely due to the relay being on its last legs, if it was just clicking that would normally suggest that either the battery doesnt have the charge to energise the relay circuit or the relay circuit was knackered.
The buzzing sounds to me like that the relay circuit is getting power but the connection in there is on its way out (so its arcing) this is probably why you are still getting it turning over from time to time (and probably explains why its sounding sluggish to turn as the right amount of charge isnt being passed to the starter for initial turn over).
Its a common problem on a lot of bikes and a fairly cheap fix.
As mentioned above already, if you turn the ignition key to on (as if it were running), make sure the bike isnt in gear, and then bridge the terminals on the start relay unit with a metal screwdriver (making sure not to earth yourself to it :D ) it should start, if it does you know the relay is knackered :)

.....thats quite important that bit isn't it Mick :grin1
anybody who can't work out why that bit is important, go to the back of the class!

Lookin good...my garage have sourced an aftermarket part for me which is slightly cheaper than the Suzuki part.
I'm going to do the screwdriver across relay terminals check 2moro morning just to be double sure its the part I need...because I've had enough of taking my bike apart for today.
Part will be in the day after I order it apparently...so lookin good for a weekend ride :grin2 (cue ****ing rain and thunderstorms the minute my engine fires)
Thanks again everyone..I'll keep you posted about the success I have with the repairs :clap

can you not get a fault code off your bikes ignition, i used the special suzuki tool (a piece of gardening wire!) to bridge fault code terminal on my SV, when it wouldn,t start, and it turned out to be the ignition switch. bit of WD40 and a tap with a rubber mallet as instructed on the SV website and all was hunky-dorry :)

Never heard of being able to find fault codes from the bike...sounds like a neat way of not having to take it to a registered suzuki dealership though. Where do u put the wire...n do the fault codes come up on the dash LCD display??

no! only 20 amp cheapy thing!
the fault codes on both sukuzi and aprilia are got by either joining 2 bullet connections (aprilia) or bridging a block conector (suzuki special tool needed! bit of stiff plastic coated wire does same job)
The diognostic code comes up on the clocks as a number, which you then cross ref to the dealers manual for your bike (bike forums usually have a copy, or will tell you answer)
they usually have a memory and can tell last fault etc.
Not always exact but point you in the right direction.
What bike you got?

Rite o...glad 2 see u guys have kept yourselves amused while i was gone :laugh1
Anyways I did the test of screwdriver across terminals on starter relay. There were a few nice little sparks and the engine turned over a few times (just really slowly)...then went back to it's favoured state of buzzing angrily at me.
I tried both my batteries which were fully charged..same thing with both.
I'm not sure if it is the starter relay because of this...
