View Full Version : Helmet recommendation
Been looking at helmets lately as my syko ones been dropped more times then ever and is now residing at an unknown residence which i cant collect until i have a backpack able of carrying it, and my open-face is about as robust as a tin can.. soooo
Im looking at using a multi-job helmet and have been looking at the Caberg Justissimo flip-front/button press sunvisor..
Anyone able to tell me what these are like or recommend an alternative??..
im looking for one i can use open-face but closes, with the added function of a sunvisor so when the sun does eventually appear im not blinded.. (a common problem i was having):grin2
Any suggestions?:grin3

Well if you had kept the CB100 with that mad antique *ahem* i mean Rickman fairing then i would have suggested this delightful piece of equipment
http://www.unitedmaskandparty.com/Armor/images/child_astronaut_helmet.JPG
(which could i suppose double up as an emergency **** pot or even a lid for the kitchen bin if you were that hard strapped :D ).
But seeing as you are looking for something with that "Tom Cruise Top Gun look" then you might aswell go the whole hog and get the 21st Century deluxe version :D

The obvious advantage of this one would be that you could (when not in use that is) use it for them albino goldfish that are so difficult to look after with the harsh light in this country :D
Failing that you could go to Alphas and try a few on from your budget range ;)
The best thing you can ask for from a helmet in the UK is that it fits properly, that should be paramount ;)

Young master you are forgetting the teachings of the elders of LINK, with repsect to dropped helmets, safety etc.
Use your power obi and get a proper one, dont buy second hand, forget a dual function helmet and go for something you can afford that offers the best protection.
Too many jedi have been lost to cheep crap, and star force cannot except futher losses.
Have a look at MCN's guide to helmets, get a feel for what you can afford and don't settle for second best.
Now go forth and mutiply young one, as for me I shall return to my jabbba the hun stance watching porn.

It all depends on your head... It may well have fitted the bloke testin it at the time, but it don't mean it'll be the same for you..

Caberg is used by essex police, i know the guy who ordered them, and he rates them highly. I suppose they have to have flip ups for work, but he also uses one for his own bike. did 3500 miles with it on our summer tour with no probs.
got to say I would go for a `normal` helmet myself, less noise & weight.
I got a new shoei raid 2 for £150, just buy last seasons colours!

But im not buying helmets second hand.. im buying them brand-new in box, possibly online as its cheaper.. my head measures 60cm so i can fit a Large-XL XL is my usual size..

I think what he is trying to tell you is that just because a large helmet fits someone else's large head, it doesnt mean that the shape of yours will allow it to fit you ;)
I cant wear Shoei helmets nor AGV ones as my head tends to either rattle around in it or need putting in with a shoehorn, however on a Shark helmet a large fits fine, an Arai i manage to wear a medium, on a Suomy again i can wear a large.
Then factor in that with some helmets you can sizing packs for the cheek pads to further adjust the fit.
Just because it says large doesnt mean it will fit every 'large' head :)

Tooey,
if you get time try looking in Just Bikes in Leigh on Sea, he has some ripping deals on helmets as he stocks last years colours and he has a good range to choose from,, flippers and full face, I bought 2 Suomys from him and am real chuffed with them.

I was looking at a Caberg Justissimo last winter, but ended up getting the Caberg V2 instead because it looks almost exactly the same, and isn't a flip-face model.
I find it does give a fair amount of wind noise though, but it'd fit your head different anyways.
For £100 it's probably well within your budget.

I've gone onto the Nitro's at the moment. Fits nice and tight but does have a fair bit of win nose. My airoh was a large but fitted like a XXL loose as anything. And Nitro cost no more than £85 either. Most are ACU Gold too. Give them ago.

i went for the Caberg V2 for the same reason as you (sunlight), a comfortable fit but a bit of wind noise. Had a small problem where the lever that lowers the sun visor broke off, but they replaced the helmet, paid £90 on-line at xs-moto.

Tooey if you do buy one of the flip up lids make sure it has been tested as a full face helmet and not an open face type ....as most of them have been tested as an open face because they cant meet the regulations for the full face type , just because its got a gold ACU sticker it doesnt mean a helmet costing £80 is as safe as one costing £500 all it is saying the helmet is accepted by the acu because it meets a certain British standard plus remember the louder the wind noise the more damage its doing to your hearing www.protection4hearing.co.uk (http://www.protection4hearing.co.uk) just check it out after all its for your benefit

I see some justisimmos on ebay (i think it was justissimos..could of been trips) for about 90 quid, 10 quid postage.. so I went to head to this shop about half 9, cant remember what day now! but it wasnt open, yet further down the road there was one open and i tried on both helmets.. but i couldnt see the benefit of the Jusstisimo over the TRIP.. seeing as the jusstisimo was 150 and the trip was around 100..
i assumed it was because the jusstisimo has the 'bluetooth device ready' and the lever was down the side of the helmet rather than on top, other than that.. no benefits.. and seeing as i dont use bluetooth headsets the trip sold itself..:grin2
So a Caberg Trip and a nice necktube and im set for winter..:clap
As for the windnoise i have sorted that problem out..
DUCK BELOW THE WINDSHIELD!!!:laugh1
