Hi, I need to know if there's an easy way of getting an oil seal off the gear selector shaft on a Suzuki GS 500E (I assume any method is generic for all bikes).

My brother's decided to follow me down the path of having a broken(ish) bike.

I've tried pulling the seal off with pliers down the shaft, and have resorted to trying to decimate it so it comes off in pieces...no joy at the moment. It's stuck rather tight.

Any ideas please guys n girls??

Is the seal not in the clutch casing?

In which case, drain the oil, remove the side casing, typically about 8 allen bolts, then you can push the seal through from the wrong side.

Easy, take about an hour.

oooooooo..I'm half glad you said that, half not.

I was told I could hook the seal out from the easy side, buit not exactly how.
When looking at it I did think it could be pushed out from the other side like you said, but that now means I have to get another gasket.

Thanks for the help :clap

is it possible to screw a couple of small screws into it and pull it out?

I did think that...but looking at the new replacement seal I can see a small spring inside it. I don't want to dislodge it and have it fall inside the engine. Might still have to resort to this though
