Hey guys,

Just wondering if someone could shed some light on how the insurance works with regards to you being able to ride someone elses bike?:grin2

What i mean is for example if i bought a bike.. (obviously smaller than what i have, conforming with restriction laws etc etc etc) providing it is taxed and moted can i ride it back home without having to pay for insurance for it?:reading

Thanks

as far as i`m aware, if you contact your insurers with the details of the bike, they can give you cover to get the bike home over the phone.

something i have done before is to ask if the dealer will cover me under their insurance to get home as a test ride..... when i bought my CBR400 i couldnt get hold of my insurance company as their phone system was being upgraded and the dealer was cool with it.

of course this only works if you are buying from a dealer!

even if you only have a single bike policy a lot of the time you can add a second bike on a temporary basis as mentioned above, some will give cover for up to 30 days so gives you time to sell your old one.

...unless you are with ebike, great insurance deals, (just renewed mine today, £206 fc with £0 excess, on the Fazer 1000) but they don't give you other bikes cover.

as i understand with express insurance an i'm under 25 an its been the same since i started insuring bikes over 500cc

As long as its not owned by me, i'm licensed to ride it & its not under 300cc i'm insured to ride it, thats how i managed to ride the fireblade for 8 weeks*.............. oh an the current owner (thats not you) must have insurance on the bike.. but you should look at your insurance paperwork it'll be in there or just fone them...

*(before the inevitable happend.... give a boy a mans bike & watch him make a mess of it!!..)

Why not under 300cc.. thats an issue, as i may need to ride a 100cc?
