Hi all,

I have almost finished my ZXR400 restoration. Should be finished by the weekend, although I probably won't put it up for sale until February / March. Does anyone know if it will go through a MOT with a KMH speedo fitted?

Also anyone know where they are not so critical on the exhaust cans. Mine has a Scorpion system without baffles although it does not say 'Not For Road Use'.

Cheers

Depends on what the mot inspector like & if he had a good christmas!
If can is not too noisy and it hasnt got not for road use on it I would think you will be ok.I had kph clocks on my H1 but had a mph sticker overlay that you stick on the clock glass so you can read it in mph and it passed ok.Dont know about just Kph clocks without an overlay though.

Cheers for the reply Jim!

I think the Exhaust will probably be ok. When we were at Snetterton and it was noise tested it was one of the quieter ones.

I tried to get an overlay for the speedo but the guy who was doing them on eBay has sold his last H2 one and has said it's not viable for him to print anymore.

You can get a mechanical gearing thing to go in line in the cable, so the readout becomes mph

I had one of these jobbies and it passed fine. I think you still need a sticker that says MPH over wgere it says KPH.

Hiya,

The bike is likely to be around £1200.00 (it's had over £2000.00 spent on it)
It's not currently restricted but I think it's fairly easy on these 400's.

I will post a link to pictures and possibly video's when I finally put it up for sale. All I will say for now is you will not find a cleaner one :grin2

I can't remember the exact text but am pretty sure that if the bike is above 100cc then you must have a fitted and working speedo. I am guessing Tooey is correct as the moped is only 50cc?

You also might want to see if these people can help with advice/overlays/etc http://www.redial-uk.co.uk/index.html 01245 320608 They are in South Woodham Ferrers.

Ditto Wickford Motorcycles. They've done some servicing for me in the past. Not tried an MOT with them though checking some other forums it seems they can be 'generous' as long as there's nothing dangerous on the vehicle.

EDIT: appears speedo's aren't actually part of the test:
