If you want to go to the ring this year, you're more than welcome to come with the company I work for. It will be in August time.

£420 will get you

All your luggage taken from Dover direct to your room 2 minutes down the road from the ring. (i'll be driving the van doing that, plus providing basic recovery)
A hotel for 4 days
Hotel has secure parking, tyre fitting equipment and basic tools.
2 Guides
The ring Meister
1 free lap of the ring
A meal for when you arrive at the hotel + a free drink
Meals for the rest of the trip will be sorted as we go along and also depending on what you wish to do.

Besides doing the ring there are various other trips and sights we can take you on while you are there.

If you want all the details go to www.biketoursabroad.com

If you have any questions, go to the contact us page and ask away.

The trip can basically be customised for the people we take with us. If you want to do the ring all day that's fine. If some of you wish to do other things we have that covered aswell.

Mate, it will be a good laugh! By all means take a look at the site. You can get in touch with john, the guy who runs it all and ask anything you want.

We have our promo day on thursday if you can make it along to that.

Check this thread for details

hi chaps,

nice to see you are all interested in goign to the ring!

i havent fully read through this thread but wanted to say a few things about it....

I went last year with my missus and a load of mates but in the cars. Im sure i dont need to tell you how dangerous the place is for bikes, but going round in the cars and seeing how close the cars were to the bikes it put me off going round on mine. That is until the day we left the ring was closed to all except a few groups of about 15 bikes with an instructor at the front - it was safer due to the lack of cars and they all went round at a good pace. Thats the only time i would personally go roudn on a bike....

It is an expensive trip if you come off they even charge you for grass seed to replant it believe it or not!!! one bloke in our group of appartments smashed up his car and it cost him around £1500 to get off the ring in the end i think!! crazy but he knew what he was in for - he had been there before and totalled up approx 60 laps apparently.

anyway, its one hell of an experience and i fully recommend it. Just be careful! I can fully recommend getting in touch with Eddy at Hotel An Der Nordeschleif (spelling?) which is next to the Adenau bridge section of the track in the middle of a town called Adenau - it was possibly one of the best places to stay - LOADS of bikes and cars crammed in - even got cahtting to a group of bikes in the next appartment - crazy people!!

we are planning a tour to Le mans, Nurburg and SPA this year in june fund depending.

take it easy and have a good trip!

One of the key things to remember is that most insurance companies now don't cover you on the 'ring. It's a long time since you could get away with public toll road.

If you do not have suitable insurance then it's not just the risk of not getting a payout. If the German Police check your documents (they're there and it's a road so they can) and you're not covered then you'll be facing the same charge as here i.e. driving without insurance.

That's the best of it. If you're involved or cause an accident (e.g. you drop it, leave oil which someone then comes off on and gets injured .. or worse) then you'll be liable without any insurance to bail you out.

p.s. I had an off in a car (aquaplanned over a crest) and I was insured. If cost around £15k including replacing around 600M of armco!

I went with Matty and some others last year.
We had a fantastic weekend.
It is indeed scary stuff and I only did one lap, (promised my kids if I was still alive after one lap I would come off).
Going again this year!
The ride there and back is fantastic, the continent is soooo much more bike friendly.
Its not a race track but everyone treats it that way!
Go for it you wont regret it!

Hmm I was under the impression that you didn't need insurance to drive the ring but if you caused damage etc they could hold you until you paid the bill.... Not sure though...

The drive/ride there is pretty good when you get to the mountains, good views and intresting roads! I fully recommend it!
